Breakfast Madness!

Posted on 4:22 PM by dimple

My restaurant of employment, Aloha Mixed Plate is opening for breakfast this Wednesday. I got to come in this morning and try out the new menu.

I got the very filling, very ono Fried Rice Loco Moco. The dish is an egg over easy on top of a hamburger patty doused in gravy. It is worth the heart attack I may suffer later today.

More Jazz

Posted on 9:11 PM by dimple

I went to Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina to watch the closing show of the Front Street Jazz and Blues Fest. David Paquette and his friend Phil Smith played as well as another local jazz trio.

It was a great show!

Jazz!

Posted on 12:37 AM by dimple

A coworker informed me that Lahaina is having a small Jazz and Blues festival. I'm so glad he said something, otherwise I would have had NO idea! I got home after working lunch at the restaurant and immediately began looking up the venues and artists.

After looking up musician biographies and music, I decided to go to Pioneer Inn at the Lahaina harbor to watch David Paquette.

They set him and a piano in the courtyard in the middle of the old inn.

This is David Paquette playing live at another venue (it's not specified in this clip). He's great, isn't he?

One of his old friends, clarinet player Phil Smith, has moved to the island and joined him on stage for a few numbers.

David Paquette was a treat, but Phil Smith was tremendous! I snagged him on his way off the stage and asked him if he was going to keep playing around the island. He said that we would be seeing a lot more of him.

David Paquette rocked his banded fedora all night.

It was a great show, and I'm looking forward to watching David Paquette rock out tomorrow at the closing ceremony at Hard Rock Cafe tomorrow afternoon (2 pm to 5 pm at the Lahaina location).

Ka'anapali Crawl

Posted on 9:34 PM by dimple

A. and I took a walk along the shoreline in front of all the Ka'anapali resorts. Along the way we spotted a curious egret, and we caught a gorgeous sunset.

Awesome

Posted on 4:07 PM by dimple
Apologies for the radio silence on the blog for the past few days. I haven't been doing anything particularly exciting except for checking out the free public pool in my neighborhood. The Lahaina Aquatic Center is awesome. I swam so hard and for so long today I thought I was going to drown trying to climb out of the pool.

Since I haven't been doing anything very awesome lately (minus the swimming so hard I'm on the verge of drowning), I decided to share with you a link to 1000 Awesome Things. It's an ongoing list of really awesome things.

For example:

#449: Staying up so late that everything becomes funny.

#445: Digging a hole in your mashed potatoes and filling it up with gravy.

and one of my favorites:

#456: When your friend returns your book and they actually read it.

And if you're not psyched about reading awesome things online, never fear! You can read about awesome things in a book:

I flipped through the book at the store, and it's just as charming and detailed as the website (minus the great stock photography). Some of the awesome things are so ridiculously funny that I snort over my keyboard. And what makes a lot of these awesome things so awesome is they are immediately relatable. I'm sure you'll come across a few where your eyes and soul will light up with recognition.

Enjoy.

New Music Tuesdays

Posted on 4:46 PM by dimple
I haven't done this in awhile, but here are some tunes that I've been listening to lately:

Nat King Cole's "Smile"

Aimee Mann's "Save Me"

And did anyone catch the little musical number from "House" a few weeks ago? If not, enjoy:

New Digs

Posted on 6:43 PM by dimple
Apologies for the radio silence!

A lot of change has been going on. I have moved out of the room I was renting and moved into the studio apartment owned by the same landlord--and under the same roof.

Although I haven't done any decorating, I'm pretty happy with how the furniture is arranged to maximize space and functionality.

A view of the studio with my back to the entrance.

A major necessity: a bookshelf. This is just inside and right to the door.

My front door!

Just inside and to the left of the door is my easy chair and storage.

My kitchenette. No stove or oven...but I have a hot plate. I'll have to take it out and give it a whirl.

There is a small loft above the bed for additional storage.

My kitchenette, small table top and the bathroom/closet.

I love this built in hutch over the kitchen sink.
