Ohai Trail Revisited

Bryan and I have our first houseguest since we moved into our place last summer.  His sister, Carolyn, will be here for about two weeks.  Our big plan for the trip is a 2 night stay in Hana (we leave tomorrow!), but in the meantime, we have been beachin' it.  We did squeeze in a great little hike on Sunday.  I had to work later in the afternoon, so we did the short but sweet Ohai Trail up north.  You might remember photos from the last time we went up there with Ashley, T-Bone, Alex and Jeremiah (the two boys decided to scavenge for Opihi).  If you'd like a refresher, check it out here.

Before we hit the trail, Bryan, Carolyn and I met up with our friend Chris for an amazing breakfast of epic proportions at Pineapple Grill in Kapalua.  Delicious!  I can't wait to go back and order everything else off the breakfast menu.

After gorging ourselves, we waddled back to the car and commenced driving further north to do our hike.

After our one mile loop, we hopped back into the car and doubled back down the highway to check out the blowhole.

The walk down to the blowhole is trippy, since you pass through landscapes of lava rock that look like someone has poured acid all over them.

We made it to the blowhole.  Even though the water was calm, we still got a little action at the blowhole:

The action at the blowhole that day was still pretty minimal, but it was fun to check it out.  I hadn't been for a long, long time, and it was great to play tour guide and bring someone out who has never seen it before.

On the way back out to the car, Carolyn took this picture of me at a cleared out spot in the lava rock.  It was like standing in the middle of some kind of alien gladiator arena.

Carolyn and I are off to the beach today before I go in for my last shift at work before our amazing Hana trip!  So pumped!
