Lazy Day Off

Posted on 5:39 PM by dimple
It's been a while since I've posted a T-Bone sighting.  He still snoozes on our lanai when it's still shady during the day, but he's been spending most of his time hiding down in the pit that runs alongside the back of the yard (where those wayward kittens from many months back were hunkered down in).  In fact, that's where he spent most of the Flossie storm.  Will said that T-Bone was not at all interested in staying inside during the storm.  What a weirdo.

I got an early start and made it to Choice Health Bar for a freshly squeezed juice (carrots, beet, ginger, cucumber!) before heading up north for a swim sesh with a friend.

I was aiming for my old favorite, Kapalua Bay--but the parking was overflowing.  We continued forward to Cliffhouse--a swimming spot I still haven't explored, but the wind was too crazy to consider jumping in safely.  So we backtracked to Napili Bay--and it was absolutely perfect.

Gorgeous turquoise waters with maximum visibility and lots of fishy friends under the water.

{everyone's out at the bay today!}

On our way home from the beach, I stopped at the Honokowai Farmer's Market and picked up a mock chicken salad wrap for lunch and brussels sprouts and pasta sauce for dinner tonight.

Now, I'm about to get offline and wait out this heat wave reading a new book.

A Very Happy Thursday

Posted on 2:42 AM by dimple
I embraced my long awaited weekend with open arms.  I surprised myself by getting up early this morning, so I made myself breakfast and then booked my ticket to Kauai for a springtime reunion with my family this upcoming April.  I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for this vacation.  It'll be my first real time off since I started working at my new restaurant a year ago.

Later in the day, Bryan and I met our friend Kimo at Mala Tavern for lunch.  I ordered their special: the Oceana a la Plancha.  Ahi and Onaga served on mashed Yukon potatoes and Molokai sweet potatoes with pesto, capers, tomatoes and pita bread.

I think this seriously one of the best dishes I have ever had on island.  It blew my mind.

And as you can see, I ate every last bite:

After lunch, Bryan and I parted ways with Kimo and drove up north to our favorite beach: Napili Bay.

The sky was ridiculously clear, that we could see every single mountain peak of Molokai on the horizon.

We stayed until just before sunset, then came home.  After taking a shower, I promptly fell asleep and took an hour nap before getting up to make myself a three egg omelette with a simple arugala salad on the side.

I've got a big day mapped out for tomorrow: a little solo shopping trip to Paia and Kahului--but I hope to meet up with some friends while over there.

Either way, I should come back with some goodies!

Swimming with the Fishies at Napili Bay

Posted on 10:17 PM by dimple
After meeting up with friends for lunch, Bryan and I drove north to Napili Bay.  Upon arriving, I called up the family and told them to check me out on the Napili Bay live cam.  You can check it out here.  After a few adjustments, my mom easily found me on the beach.  How cool is that?  Bryan and I waved hello, then I got off the phone to head into the water.

I was super excited to try out my new bright pink fins (thanks, Drew!) again this afternoon, but the blister I acquired on yesterday's snorkel prevented that from happening.

No matter.  I ditched the fins and swam "naked."  Just my swim goggles, my bare feet and my underwater camera.

I was in the water after 5 pm, so it was feeding time for all the fish.

{a school of Convict Tangs}

{A smudge of a rainbow in the sky}

{small fish, long fish and lots of prickly sea urchins}

But my absolute favorite snorkel spotting this afternoon?  A flippin' octopus!  Bwahahaha!  I had to insert the evil laughter.  This is the first octopus I've spotted on my own.  I feel so proud.  I was swimming over the reef, and I noticed something mottled a rust color fluttering under a rock.

I swam in closer to investigate and was rewarded with this guy:

As I was taking photos of him, he decided he had enough and blasted me with a jet of water from his siphon (that white tube in the middle).  I decided to leave him be and swam on.

{I like the blue tips on his fins}

{Vana!}

After I got out of the water and got comfortable on my beach towel, it began to sprinkle.

But here in Hawaii, where there is rain, there are rainbows!

We tried to sit it out, but after looking up and only seeing darkening skies, we decided to take off.

Napili Bay Under Water and Above It

Posted on 9:21 PM by dimple
Yesterday was a hot one in Lahaina, and since Bryan and I both had the day off, we escaped town for the much cooler breezes up north at Napili Bay.

The snorkeling is pretty sweet here, so I took the camera with me underwater.

That's Bryan back there!

I loved swimming through this school of tiny minnows!

Taking a breath and looking back towards the beach.

I love this photo of a tiny wave above to break over the reef that I was snorkeling over.

Look at all those prickly sea urchins.

Perfect day for some Stand Up Paddling.

This picture is so clear, it doesn't look like it was taken under the water!!

Why hello, Bright Eyes!

Sand, Surf...

and Palm Trees...

...and a Cute Guy!

Perfect Day Off!

Napili Bay

Posted on 9:26 PM by dimple
Bryan and I did Napili Bay again.

The sun was shining this time around, there were no ominous clouds on the horizon and the bay was calm and flat.

A photo Bryan took of me in his aviator sunglasses per Mackenzie's request:

I swam across the bay and back again.  It was so nice to be back in the water after a week off nursing my cold.  The cold has developed a deep chest cough--so I'll be heading into the doctor early tomorrow morning.

We read on the beach for a little while until clouds began to gather above us.  Not wanting a repeat incident of last week, we left the beach early.

We went to Whaler's Village and gobbled up some good grub at Hula Grill!

I got the grown up Grilled Cheese with tomato gazpacho.

Delish!
