Red, Red, Red

Miko, my friend from middle school, sent me a red tote bag for my birthday.  It's from Delaney Barbecue--a Williamsburg brisket bonanza in Brooklyn, New York lovingly started from scratch by her talented boyfriend, Dan Delaney.  I have yet to visit, but if you are in the neighborhood, go check it out.  I've only heard fabulous things about the place, and I can't wait to experience it firsthand.

Those are handpicked cherry tomatoes grown from seed!  I'm so excited.

I was at Ace on Wednesday and picked up a starter Roma tomato vine.  I've got the plant going in a much larger pot than my cherry tomato plants, so I'm expecting even greater things from my newest addition to the container garden.

See How My Garden Grows

I planted a few new seeds two weeks ago, and things are really taking off!  The arugula started sprouting within 3 days.  The new pot of Italian Basil is sprouting, and the parsley just started shooting up yesterday.  Exciting!

I failed miserably this week to cook something new, so I may have to be extra motivated next week and do two new dishes to make up for it.

My girlfriend, Shaina, went hunting on Lanai last week, and she came home with some deer and sheep.  She hand delivered some deer shoulder and rump to the house, so I am trying to come up with a good recipe to try cooking venison for the first time.  I think that might be my big cooking project for next week.

Green Thumb

A few snapshots from my adventures in gardening:

The larger planter with basil and cilantro is still alive and kicking.

My basil is looking particularly robust.  Now that I know how to use the Cuisinart Hand blender, I think I'm going to use the chopping attachment to make some pesto!

The cilantro is also looking pretty healthy.  I need to make some guacamole!

Besides admiring my already thriving plants, I transplanted my thyme and a second bunch of basil into new and bigger containers.  Hopefully the herbs will get a little bit bigger and healthier now that they are no longer squeezed into tiny pots.

I have higher hopes for the thyme.  The basil is still looking a little stuffed--even in the bigger pot.

I then used the left over pots to plant some new seeds!

The two smaller containers have been sprinkled with chive seeds, and the bigger pot on the right has been planted with more cilantro.

Growing stuff is fun!
