I bought these sweet mirrored Revo sunglasses about two weeks ago, and I'm loving them.

Things I Bought that I Love: Soriya Swimwear
Posted on 1:30 AM by dimple
A Maui girl can never have too many bikinis!
After surveying my bin of bathing suits, I decided it was time to round out my collection of sporty separates with some cuter, girly pieces. However, it was important for me to find a suit that would stay put when I'm out there swimming.
Happily, thanks to a glowing review from Oahu blogger Rebeka at Goldfish Kiss, I found my new favorite swimwear line: Soriya!!
All the bikinis are handmade in the USA by some very talented ladies in Los Angeles. The pieces are super soft and! get this!! REVERSIBLE.
I am wearing the Davy Top and the Kelley Bottoms--both in coral/aqua. As I mentioned above, both pieces are reversible, so you can do matchy-matchy or mix it up a bit.
I swim tested my new bikini this afternoon at Airport Beach, and it performed splendidly. Once I was all laced up, neither top nor bottom budged as I swam hard against the wind and current.
And how cute are the details on the suit? I love the straps across the back, and the gathered bottoms are super flattering. Plus, there are tiny shells attached to the drawstrings. Adorable.
If you want to read even more glowing praise for Soriya, check out Rebekah's review right here.

Things I Bought that I Love: Jolyn Swimwear
Posted on 6:12 PM by dimple
After reading a glowing review of Jolyn Swimwear for more active water pursuits, I knew I had to try one for myself. I bought the Vented Top (pictured below) and the Brazilian Brief.
I've been so, so, so happy using Jolyn during all my swimming workouts whether it's in the pool or in the ocean. The crosstie back offers a great adjustable fit. I do double-knot my top though, because a simple bow usually comes undone during my workout.
The bottoms and tops go for $25 each. That's a steal for swimwear!
The bottoms, no matter what style you get, have less coverage than normal sporty swimsuits, so they have a similar look to surf and fashion brands so you don't look too "covered up" if you decide to lay out on the beach in these. Just know that the bikini bottoms have a drawstring in the waistband to create a snugger fit if need be.
I've owned my Jolyn set for a month now, and I use them every time I hit the water for a high powered swim.
I love mine so much, I'm adding the Triangle Top to my swimwear collection. Huzzah!

Things I Bought that I Love: Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
Posted on 7:41 PM by dimple
My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil products for me when I was battling icky dry skin in Portland. When my skin was really bad, he recommended the tub of Cetaphil's moisturizing cream. I was always felt kind of gross slathering on goops of the stuff onto my skin, but it worked wonders.
I have since graduated to using the lighter formula of Cetaphil's lotion, and I am once again totally wowed by how great Cetaphil works!

It's fragrance free, clinically tested by dermatologists and paraben free. It glides on silky smooth and keeps my skin feeling creamy and soft all day.
It is easy to find at your local drugstore. It's a little pricier than other brands, but totally worth it!

Things I Bought That I Love: Lush's Handy Gurugu
Posted on 1:17 AM by dimple
My poor Panasonic Lumix is still experiencing some technical difficulties, despite a short visit to the camera store today. I realize that the blog has been seriously lacking in photos that I've taken myself, so I am resorting to snapping away on the cameraphone until I send my Panasonic to the mainland to see if it can be fixed or until I see if it's still workable and convenient without being able to easily turn it off.
Until then, let's focus on fun stuff rather than camera woes.
I went to body boutique Lush last month to find a creamy way to solve my Sahara-dry hands. I've always had dry skin, but when I moved to Maui in 2010 it seemed like my skin became a sponge. I soaked up sun and warm, balmy air and my skin was so happy...until it wasn't.
I guess my body acclimated to the awesome climate, and now I'm back to dealing with dry flaky skin. Gross. This needed to be solved. And now.
I went in with my bucket of tears sob story, and the super friendly and knowledgeable sales associate pointed me to a few products and the Handy Gurugu won me over almost instantaneously.
Not shown to actual size...of course :)
The Handy Gurugu is a heavy duty, super rich and thick hand cream made from organic Shea, cashew, almond and pumpkin butters with soothing essential oils to save cracked, dry and sore paws like my own. It smells a little medicinal, unlike some of Lush's other fruity and floral products, but once I smoothed on a small pea sized amount, I was hooked. This stuff is awesome.
Don't waste it all on your hands either! I dab and rub this on other dry spots like my elbows and feet. I have barely put a dent into my 3.5 oz container, so I have many, many months of Gurugu goodness to look forward to.

Things I Bought That I Love: Maxi Dresses and Running Shorts, Oh My!
Posted on 10:30 AM by dimple
I have just discovered the shopping bonanza of all time: Piperlime. I realize that I'm not really announcing anything new or innovative to anyone here since most of you are already familiar with this amazing online shopping site.
However, it's new to me, and I must sing its praises. Possibly in a falsetto, operatic voice. I'm that thrilled with my finds there.
I bought this super comfy and soft Maxi Dress (made by Hive & Honey) off the website along with two other great dresses.
All three arrived fast with free 2 Day Shipping. One dress didn't fit so I shipped it back with a free return label provided by Piperlime. I'm already digging the clothes on the website, but the company is SLAYING me with top notch customer service that rivals Zappos.
The dress was super long on a shrimp like me, so I had a sewing savvy coworker hem it for me so it wasn't puddling onto the floor.
I have rocked this dress all around town, and I adore it. It makes me feel super tall (not sure why) and incredibly elegant while being one of the easiest and comfiest garments I own. I love that the dress gently clings my curves without being too form fitting, and best of all, the poly blend means the dress stays cool (which means that I stay cool wearing it--a definite plus on a hot day under the cruel Lahaina sun).
PS: this dress was only $59. Cha-ching!!
Something else that I bought that I'm totally loving and squeezing every penny out of: Lululemon's Speed Short.
They are a pricier piece of athletic wear at $54, but I love, love, love them and wear my one pair multiple times a week (depending on how many times I'm doing laundry in a week given that I only have the one pair to enjoy).
The shorts are made with four way stretch, technical fabric that moves with you and wicks sweat away from your skin. They have a Coolmax liner so you don't get underwear chafe (this sounds ridiculous but it can totally happen--even when you are running a pitiful amount of miles per week like I am) and there are plenty of sneaky pockets (including one zippered pocket in the back of the waistband) to stash keys, your ID and gel packs (I'm not entirely sure what these are, but I'm assuming they are some kind of high energy fueling snack for those who run a whole lot more than me).
Not only are these shorts a complete smarty-pants when it comes to technical and athletic details, but they are most importantly, super flattering.
Really, really flattering.
And maybe even more importantly, very comfortable.
The vents on the thigh provide more room for powerful, muscular thighs while making your legs look super long as you run like a gazelle over hot pavement (this is how I have to imagine myself running in order to not give up the entire process and begin crawling on my hands and knees the rest of the way).
The wide, flat waistband stays smooth and comfortable across your hips and lower stomach as you run, jump and play.
I use these not only for my outdoor running workouts (short-lived as they may be) but also for my indoor circuit workouts.
Bottom line: the Lululemon Speed Shorts are nice to sweat in.

Things I Bought that I Love: Expert Eyes Makeup Remover
Posted on 2:08 AM by dimple
As you know, I'm a big fan of Mindy Kaling. She has a blog of her own which I highly recommend you check out. On her blog, she has a regular featured titled "Things I Bought that I Love" where she gushes about a purchase that--you guessed it--that she loves.
I'm totally stealing her idea.
Writers do that. We steal from one another.
Do you like that I just called myself a writer? I figure if I say it enough, I'll do more of it--writing, that is. I'm aiming to have a bite that's as bad as my bark.
I really only wear makeup to work these days, but even though I was only wearing it for a few hours, I had the hardest time taking it off my face. I liked the idea of "gentle" eye makeup removers because who likes the idea of using "non-gentle" methods of rubbing eyeliner and glittery eye shadows off your lids? No one, that's who.
But the gentle eye makeup removers, even the ones from Clinique, left small smudges under my eyes or remnants of eye shadow in the corners of my lids. Not cute.
I was at Foodland a few weeks ago in desperate need for a makeup remover replacement. I don't use the words "desperate" lightly. I had totally and completely run out of makeup remover.
This should come as a surprise to no one. I'll use something and realize that it's life is slowly coming to an end, but instead of picking up a replacement in a timely fashion so I have smooth transition to a new product, I'll wait--not even to the last possible moment, but until it's way past the last possible moment.
At Foodland, with eye makeup totally smeared across my lids from the night before, I found this small plastic bottle from Maybelline:
It's an oil based eye makeup remover, which I wasn't totally excited about, but it was my only option.
And it's an awesome option. It does leave my lids a little oily, but I just rinse with water when I'm done.
The Expert Eyes makeup remover quickly takes off even the most stubborn and waterproof of my eyeliners. I'm a convert for life.
