Our housemates rented a cabin for Thursday night in Hana, and since Bryan and I both had the days off, we spontaneously joined the Hana party.
We made a stop in Paia for breakfast and supplies before hitting the winding road to Hana.

On the way to Hana, we stopped at the waterfall at mile marker 11 for a quick, shockingly cold dip. Then, we made a stop at the line of food trucks before town to get coffee, snacks and my favorite coconut candy!

We made it to our rental shortly before sunset. The seven of us unloaded the two vehicles that we caravanned in and then we started on cooking dinner (a green salad, garlic bread and ratatouille pasta with sausage). While food was being prepped and cooked, beers were cracked open, cheese and crackers were served and a few games of backgammon were battled out at the dining room table.
We gorged ourselves at dinner and sipped on wine. Once everything was eaten and cleared away and cleaned, we sat down to a round of games. Cards Against Humanity was a huge hit at the cottage, especially since we played with one non-English speaker. Having wildly inappropriate cards read aloud by someone with a German accent--priceless.
One by one, everyone shuffled off to bed. Most of us were in bed by midnight--early nights and early mornings in Hana are not uncommon. I fell asleep to the sound of insects humming outside my window and woke up to the sound of birds stirring up a racket before dawn.
