I'm not sure why, but Nat King Cole's song "Orange Colored Sky" has been looping through my brain nonstop over the past few weeks.
I became a Nat King Cole fan back in middle school when I discovered a CD of his greatest hits in my parents' music collection. His soulful crooning voice spilled like liquid gold out of the speakers. I quickly became charmed by his voice and the simple tunes that he sang.
I feel like Nat King Cole is more famous for his slower, romantic songs like "Unforgettable" and "Mona Lisa" and "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" but Cole began his music career as a very fine jazz singer and pianist. I always preferred his more playful tunes like "Straighten Up and Fly Right" as well as "It's Only a Paper Moon," and of course, "Orange Colored Sky."
